CAS Letter (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) is the Most Crucial Document

This is an electronic document that will be issued to you by the University in support of the application for the UK Student Visa. You, being an international student, are supposed to ask for the CAS letter prior to applying for the student visa since the CAS letter is normally issued after you accept the offer and pay the required deposit* to secure your seat. The letter usually includes your details, course of study, period of study, and the CAS number.
As seen from the sample CAS letter below, the following details will be included in the CAS letter of yours:
| CAS Component | Details Included in Document |
|---|---|
| CAS Reference Number | 14-digit unique reference number for the CAS generated by UKVI. |
| University SLN | The official Sponsor License Number (SLN) of your preferred UK University. |
| Course & Duration | Official title of your course and exact duration (start and finish dates). |
| Tuition Fee Details | Fees for the first year or full course fee, inclusive of any granted scholarships. |
| Tuition Deposit Paid | Partial tuition fee amount paid to the university prior to CAS issuance. |
| Accommodation Deposit | Partial accommodation fee paid directly to the university (if applicable). |
| English Language Proof | IELTS scores, MOI, or alternative language test score details as required by the university. |
Requirements and Validity for CAS
There are certain requirements you need to meet when applying for your CAS letter. Below are the documents you will need to submit to receive a CAS letter:
How to Apply for a CAS Letter?
To receive a CAS, you must meet the following requirements:
- Meet all the conditions listed in your conditional offer letter
- Upload all necessary documents on the university website
- Pay the initial deposit and confirm your admission
Some UK universities do not require an initial deposit for CAS, especially for undergraduate programs. Each university has its official website link where you can find exact steps to obtain a CAS.

| Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies - (CAS) | You will not need to send the letter of Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies but only the CAS number (the 14-digit number which comes along with your application). With every visa application, a new CAS will be submitted. You are required to send the new CAS number if you are continuing your studies at this university or have already completed your course and wish to pursue another course here. |
| Qualifications | In case you are pursuing your studies from us at the bachelor’s degree level or above, then it is not necessary to send any qualification details along with your visa application. In case your study course is below the bachelor’s degree level, then you are expected to send the qualifications details mentioned in your CAS. In case there are no qualifications mentioned in your CAS, then you don’t need to send anything. |
| Evidence of your English language ability | Your CAS will state how your English language ability has been assessed by the university. If you have assessed this by providing a certificate or qualification, this will be stated on your CAS, and you need to provide the certificate listed. | Under 18 Consent | If you are under 18 years old when you start your studies, you need to get a letter of consent from your parents or legal guardian. You also need to give them your birth certificate or adoption certificate. |
| Your Tuberculosis Test Result | Your tuberculosis test result is also important. So, if you need to extend your visa, you will need an ATAS Certificate even if you already have one before. You can find information about this on our website. |
* You should check the requirements for your visa application carefully.
- Make sure you have all the documents before you apply.

11. Life in the UK for Indian Students — accommodation types, student communities
If you're studying abroad, securing suitable accommodation is one of the most important steps. Here's everything you need to know about student accommodation in the UK! There are many choices available for accommodation for international students in the UK.
Accommodation on Campus / Dorms
Almost every university in the United Kingdom offers students the opportunity to live on
campus, with first-year bachelor's students having a higher chance of securing
accommodation. Options include single, double, or private rooms with shared facilities.
Most contracts run for 40 weeks and offer meal plans or self-catered options.
Living on
campus is a great way to experience British campus culture, meet new people, and make
lifelong friends!
Off-campus housing options
If you cannot find accommodation on campus, don’t worry! Many universities partner with
housing companies to help students find suitable off-campus accommodation.
For example, the University of Lincoln offers student houses and apartments where students
can share kitchens and living spaces. Private apartments are also available, with rent often
including utilities and internet.
Privately-owned halls of residence
Another alternative for student accommodation that has recently emerged is privately owned halls of residence. Many students want to have inner-city accommodations to live close to the cool places in the cities where they are studying. The properties consist of sharing houses with many private bedrooms for the students. There are a common kitchen and common area, but bathrooms are private, which is comfortable for students. Halls of residence are mostly chosen by students who are in their second, third, or fourth year.
Private rentals & student housing agencies
If you know the UK terrain, you can directly contact one of the student housing agencies that operate close to universities. Rent can be anything at all depending on your needs and what kind of residence you are looking for! But you can let the agent know what your budget is so that they are aware of it. You will have to pay an additional fee to register with agencies, but often this is worth it as they are usually good at finding you the perfect place to stay.
UK Accommodation Guide: Do's and Don'ts
| Accommodation Do's | Accommodation Don'ts |
|---|---|
| Book your student accommodation (university halls or PBSA) well in advance before arriving in the UK. | Never send full rent or security deposits without verifying verified landlord credentials and signing an official lease. |
| Ensure your security deposit is protected in a government-backed Tenancy Deposit Protection (TDP) scheme. | Don't ignore tenancy contract clauses regarding contract length (usually 40–51 weeks) and break clauses. |
| Inspect the property thoroughly and sign an inventory check-in checklist with photo evidence upon moving in. | Avoid informal verbal agreements or subletting rooms without written approval from the landlord. |
| Confirm your Council Tax Exemption certificate as a full-time international student from your university. | Don't sign any agreement without checking Gas Safety, EPC rating, and electrical inspection certificates. |
